Planning Committee Visit to Peterborough

Earlier this month I travelled to Peterborough with a number of the  Mid & East Antrim councillors for a best practice visit on Planning.  One of the major new powers being handed over to the councils next April will be local planning policy and planning permission powers, it was therefore very beneficial to see how other councils carry out this work.  Peterborough has built up a reputation in recent years as being one of the most efficient planning authorities in the England and is the second fastest growing area economically in the UK.

It was a refreshing look at how other councils conduct their business, how the public planning committee functions and how planning policy is formed through a can do attitude rather than a bureaucratic one.  I wish to thank all the officers and councillors from Peterborough who made the trip so informative and worth while and look forward to seeing many of them on a possible visit to NI early next year.
