Councillor calls on N.I Water to end restrictions to access at Woodburn Forest.

UUP Councillor John Stewart has called on Northern Ireland Water to re-open the public access points around Woodburn Forest following their closure at the site last year.
Speaking on Monday evening following a site visit Councillor Stewart said “many of public access points to Woodburn Forest are still blocked or restricted following the decision to allow use of the site to an exploratory drilling company. Thankfully that company has now left the site but sadly restrictions are still in place”

Woodburn Forest is very popular with hikers and walkers including the Woodburn Ramblers Club who use the area every Sunday.

“I have spoken with a number of members of the Ramblers Group who are becoming increasingly frustrated with the limited access that remains to the walk ways. On Sunday past a wheelchair bound member of the group found it almost impossible to get into the Forest and it was only due to assistance from members of group that entrance was possible”.

“I find the continued restrictions to be totally unnecessary and have written to Northern Ireland Water again asking for their reasons and calling on them to re-open the entrances as quickly as possible”.
